Melody Dictation
Listen to a melody, then move the X noteheads to the pitches you hear. The rhythm is already written for you.
Choose your difficulty
Pick a level to get started, or build your own dictation with custom settings.
Practice lets you check, retry and reveal the melody. Test/Homework locks the settings and submits one final answer.
Normal noteheads are given pitches. Drag an X notehead up or down to a stave line or space. Its rhythm and horizontal position stay fixed. You can also select a note and use the pitch controls below.
Scroll sideways to see the full stave on a small screen. The note menu and pitch buttons work without dragging.
How this works: the melody uses only the selected key and range, in 4/4. Intervals refer to consecutive sounding notes. Pitches are scored only on the X notes; given pitches do not count towards the mark. The key signature applies to every note, including moved X notes. C4 is middle C.
The melody’s rhythm is fixed for the exercise. An X inside a circle represents a minim (two beats). Rests complete the final bar where needed. In Test/Homework, each started playback counts, even if stopped; checking submits the answer once. Homework results are saved online, so teachers can check the result code on another device.
