A quick summary
- Learning activities do not ask for student names, school names or email addresses.
- Homework links and completed results are saved so teachers and students can use them later.
- Some preferences and unfinished work are saved in your browser.
- Contact messages are private. Game leaderboard initials and scores are public.
- Google advertising and external affiliate links involve third-party services.
Homework links and results
Creating a homework link saves the module and task settings with a generated link identifier. Completing a round can save the module, difficulty or settings, numerical score, total marks, completion date and time, answers and whether each answer was correct. Results may also record the original homework settings and whether they were changed.
A result is associated with a generated homework code, not a student account. Anyone who has a valid result code can look up that result. Share it only with the people who need it, such as your teacher. There is no public list of individual homework results.
These are practice results, not official qualifications or decisions about a student’s education.
Information stored in your browser
A language-preference cookie lets the server send your chosen English edition from the first page load. Local storage and session storage can also remember your language choice, unfinished rounds, homework results, game personal bests and game initials. This helps the tools work and allows you to resume work. You can remove stored information through your browser’s site-data settings; doing so may remove saved progress. Clearing your browser does not delete a result already saved on the server.
Names entered in the Random Name Chooser stay within the open page and are not sent to our server or saved as a class list by that tool. The “Pass it on” feature opens a draft in your email app; it does not send the invitation or save the recipient’s address on our server.
Contact forms, suggestions and problem reports
We receive the message you submit, its date and time, the selected topic and any optional reply email. Suggestions and problem reports also include the page and tool title. Messages are stored in our database and can be emailed to the site owner to respond, investigate issues and improve the service. They are not published or added to a marketing list.
We do not need student names or school details to handle a normal enquiry. Please avoid including them. If you supply a reply email, it is used to handle your message and any follow-up.
Game leaderboards
Posting a game score is optional. Shared leaderboards display two or three initials, score and level, across both domains. The server also stores the game identifier, a run seed, rules version and relevant timestamps. Game inputs are submitted to calculate the score; the current leaderboard record does not retain the full tap sequence. Initials are public, so do not use a full name or another identifying label.
Hosting and security
Cloudflare provides hosting, database storage and security services. As part of providing the website, it processes technical information such as IP addresses and request details. We use request information for functions such as abuse prevention, rate limiting and optional country-based suggestions for the UK or US site. The country suggestion is not precise location tracking.
Our learning-result records do not include an IP-address field. This does not mean that hosting or advertising providers never process IP addresses. See Cloudflare’s privacy information.
Advertising and cookies
Some pages use Google AdSense to help cover running costs. Google and other advertising providers may use cookies, web beacons, IP addresses and similar technologies to deliver and measure adverts. Depending on your choices, location and applicable settings, advertising cookies may use previous visits to this and other websites to help select adverts.
Where a cookie-consent or privacy-choice message is available, use it to review or change your choices. You can also manage cookies in your browser and review Google’s ad-personalisation settings. Disabling some storage may affect preferences or saved progress.
Read how Google uses information from sites that use its services, Google’s cookie information and industry advertising opt-out choices. MusicClassLab does not currently include a separate Google Analytics installation.
Affiliate and external links
Recommended gear and revision-guide pages contain affiliate links. If you follow a link, the retailer may use its own cookies or tracking and may pay a commission at no extra cost to you. The retailer’s privacy notice applies on its website. For Amazon, see its UK privacy notice or US privacy notice.
Why we use information and who receives it
We use information to provide the activities and saved results you request, answer messages, correct problems and keep the site secure. For site operation, support and security, we rely on our legitimate interests in providing and improving the service. Where consent is required for non-essential cookies or similar technologies, that use should follow the choices you make in the relevant consent controls.
Cloudflare, Google advertising services and the email provider used to receive site messages process information for the functions described above. These services can process information in countries outside the UK. Their own privacy notices explain their processing and transfer arrangements. We do not sell homework-result records or contact-message lists.
How long information is kept
Saved homework links and results currently have no automatic expiry, so that links and codes continue to work. Messages are kept to handle enquiries, investigate problems and retain relevant follow-up history. We review whether information is still needed when dealing with a request or issue; there is currently no automatic deletion schedule for contact messages or game leaderboard records.
If you would like information removed, contact us with the relevant code, message reference or game details. Please provide only what is needed to locate it. Removal from our systems does not necessarily remove copies already shared with a teacher, held in an email conversation or retained by a service provider under its own policies.
Your choices and rights
Depending on your location and the circumstances, you may have rights to access, correct or delete personal information, restrict its use or ask for a portable copy. You can object to processing based on legitimate interests and withdraw consent where processing relies on consent. Use the contact form for these requests. Some information may be needed to verify that a request relates to you.
You can raise a concern with the UK Information Commissioner’s Office or your local data-protection authority.
Young people and changes to this notice
Students can use learning activities without providing contact details. If you are a child and need to contact the site, ask a parent, carer or teacher to help. We do not ask children to create accounts or sign up for marketing.
We will update this notice when the service changes. The date above shows when this version was last updated.
