OCR GCSE Music Revision
Prepare for questions on musical elements, contexts and language across unfamiliar extracts. The listening paper covers areas of study 2–5; My Music supports the practical work.

How this helps with Component 05: Listening and appraising
Switch between listening for rhythm, harmony, texture and instrumentation. Connect the feature you identify to the particular extract; do not assume every piece from a genre uses the same devices.
Your areas of study
- My Music (practical work)
- The Concerto Through Time
- Rhythms of the World
- Film Music
- Conventions of Pop
Try this way of thinking
Syncopation places emphasis away from the expected strong beats. Clap the pulse first, then locate the off-beat notes. Afterwards, practise describing the rhythmic effect in a real extract.
Finish with your board’s music
Listen widely across the four examined areas, including instrumental roles and playing techniques. These tools do not reproduce concerto, world-music, film or pop recordings, and this specification has no prescribed set works.
The courses above mark short skill exercises. They do not mark exam essays, assess performance or replace your composition coursework. For creative practice, try Composition Challenge separately from assessed coursework.
Your next 15 minutes
- Choose one skill and complete a short round.
- Read the feedback, then repeat the part you missed.
- Open a class extract or an official paper and apply the skill in context. Explain your answer with musical evidence.
